Backing option
Sew-On Patches
The professional standard. A plain fabric backing stitched to the garment is the most permanent, most launderable attachment there is — and the one uniform buyers should choose by default.

Why uniforms default to sew-on
Heat and chemistry kill adhesives; thread doesn't care. Sew-on survives industrial laundering at 60°C+, keeps hi-viz garments compliant (stitched off-seam, no adhesive interfering with retroreflective areas), and outlives the garment itself. It's also the only backing some force and workwear specs permit.
- No cost penalty — sew-on is our default and cheapest backing.
- Application: zigzag or straight stitch 2–3mm inside the border; a local alterations shop will fit a patch for a few pounds.
- Removal is clean: cut the stitches, lift the patch, pull the threads.
Common questions
Only if you also ordered the heat-seal layer — plain sew-on backing has no adhesive. Many customers order iron-on backing and add a stitch for permanence; the quote builder offers both.
On merrowed-border patches the stitch line sits under the border and is invisible from the front. We include matching thread colour guidance with every order.
